DNP 840 Discuss a barrier to health care delivery resulting from state or federal policy or law

Thanks for your discussion on this controversial but sensitive and vital issue. Every personal and religious choice is highly valued and respected as this response basically is for class discussion purposes. Sex education and contraceptive choice should be considered a given to all females to educate and better inform all females of what abortion entails. All these are reproductive health that should be freely accessible to all women for informed personal decisions and should not deny or dictated by another to a legal adult in my personal opinion (Myer, 2022). Several diverse circumstances direct individuals to make health decisions including reproductive health decisions which again should be a person’s choice as they deem vital to their lives. The utilization of Enovid which was the first oral contraceptive for the treatment of menstrual disorders in 1957 but later was approved by the FDA for contraceptive purposes led to over six million married women preventing pregnancy through its utilization (Myer, 2022). The legalization of contraceptives for married women was later granted to unmarried women in 1965 (Myer, 2022). The reason for making such choices is personal and privacy needs to be maintained. It is very obvious that these restrictions are politically motivated endangering the lives of women who are found in this predicament. Referencing  Roe v. Wade (410 US 113, 1973) and Doe v. Bolton (410 US 179, 1973), the fundamental constitutional right to privacy in choosing to have an abortion was clearly stated. Prior to and in addition to this law legalizing abortion based on the hardship and complications to both mother and the fetus was adopted. As reported by Myer (2022) that abortion was legalized if performed by a physician after confirming the risks attached to such pregnancy relating to grave physical or mental impairment or death of the woman, or the fetus would be born with a grave physical or mental defect or in cases where the pregnancy resulted from rape or incest although for some states it still remained that abortion only allowed for reasons affecting the woman’s health. While considerations for safe medical care must be in a priority for anyone when it comes to health decisions,  healthcare decisions including women’s reproductive decisions should solely be a personal decision and choice. The argument remains very contentious and unending on both sides. The opinion of the patient should highly be respected as is on other medical decisions.
